What to Do After I've Seen the Black Screen

Hey guys! The question for this post: "How should we respond to things like Blackout Tuesday? I've heard good and bad things about it."
This is a great question! I think that, if used effectively, Blackout Tuesday is a great tool. The intent behind it is not for everyone to stay radio silent all day. That doesn't help anyone. The point is for the personal posts (selfies, pictures of your meals, your new haircut, your adorable pet, etc.) to come to a halt so that social media can be used to get important information out there.
If you do decide to post for Blackout Tuesday it shows the members of the black community that you stand with them. Do not just post because you think it's cool or a fun trend.
The number one rule of Blackout Tuesday, do not use #blacklivesmatter on your post. It floods the tag with black screens, and people who use it for information no longer have access. Use the tag #blackouttuesday instead
On this day, really take the time to read posts and watch the videos. This is the first step to learning about systemic racism, white privilege, what to bring as a protestor, black businesses you can support, what to do and what not to do if you decide to protest. This is a day for self-education.
In summary, here's what to do:
Post a black screen with #blackouttuesday
Read through posts with information about the blm movement as well as topics for self-education that interest you
Share posts on your social media to educate others
I hope this helped. If you have any other questions you can comment down below or use the contact page to reach out :)
